Baedeker and Other Guides

Welcome to our list of Baedeker and other travel guides. Each one has been carefully collated and described, and any defects noted. Careful attention has been paid to publishers' imprints, and differences/variations noted. There's always the possibility that we missed something, in which case the item may of course be returned for a full refund if not as described. Photos available upon request. Unless otherwise stated all books are in the publishers' original cloth titled in gilt on front cover and spine.

Guides for each country/region are listed in English first, followed by French and German.

Note: some Baedekers are in their original salmon-pink cloth. These are not, as is sometimes assumed, faded red bindings.

NB.: photos of guides with dust jackets have reflective plastic jacket-covers.

All prices shown in US$. Payment may also be made in £ sterling or Canadian $ at the current rate of exchange. Insured postage at cost. All items offered subject to prior sale. We're happy to respond to individual enquiries about any item.

Schwarzwald Odenwald • Bodensee. Leipzig: Karl Baedeker, 1927. Second edition. A sad case: old (but neat) clear tape repair to gutter of Frankfurt city plan, and lacks 2 cm. upper corner of pp. 11/12 (just touching page numbers). Most importantly, lacks pp. 55-58 and attendant map of the environs and city plan of Heidelberg. The 4 pp. gathering appears never to have been bound in. Yes, I know, I'm grasping at straws here, but the rusting staples show absolutely no trace of it having been removed. These faults aside, a fine, bright copy, priced accordingly.
